The Birds

OK, I was hoping to write about almost anything else but the problem we have been having with robins coming up to our sliding-glass door and pecking on it. Not only that, but they are making a real mess on the deck. (I am sparing you all from viewing the pics.) We have tried covering the sliding door with comic pages, red and yellow stripes, and we have hung a decorative twirly lighthouse and spiral from the soffit, but these robins keep coming. Kinda reminds you of Alfred Hitchcock's thriller, but not quite that bad. If anyone has any ideas that we haven't tried, please feel free to share them.

The problem is really quite simple; eliminate the comics from your blocking mechanism. All the robin is doing is to try to team up again with his partner in crimefighting, Batman.

Seriously, take a look at what the bird sees; i.e., is he looking at the reflection of trees or whatever in your backyard which would make him want to fly in that direction?

Any distractions you erect should be on the outside of the window, not the inside. If it's bad enough hang a very light casting net (be careful, you don't want the nautical effect!) there for a few days to break their habits instead of their necks
Good luck

Thanks so much Mr. Duke for your insight. We will try something of the sort.

We bought a rubber snake last night and put him out on the deck. We'll just see how smart those robins are.
