Mayberry Trivia

Who can tell me what Barney ordered at the diner for breakfast in the episode "Ernest T. Joins the Army?" This shot here is right after Barney has ordered and he has asked the man behind a newspaper to pass the sugar, and after he does, he realizes that ET has escaped from one of Mayberry's maximum security cells. And, by the way, Barney mentioned that he wasn't "too hungry this morning." It may be tough for some to get his entire menu, so I will ask an easier one too. How much tip did Andy and Barney leave at the diner the day before? Have fun with it.

I have no idea, but knowing old Barn it was a lot. They're wiry you know, it's a mark of the Fifes......
Was this the episode when ET wanted to join the army? If a duck stood still you could grab him by the bill?
As for the tip, again no idea; but I remember one time when they didn't realize that both had left a tip. Barney suggested that he go back to the diner and put his hat over his and slide it back off the table and into his pocket. After Andy chastised him they agreed that the waitress needed the money, although I can't recall exactly why.
How about some easier Mayberry trivia questions? Are you grading on a curve?

I dont remember everything that he ordered but it included 3 eggs over easy, stack of cakes, whole wheat toast and juice. They each tipped a quarter and agreed she could use it because she was a widow. I dont think it was the join the army show, I think it was the Mrs Wiley show.

I somehow knew you two would respond in one way or another. First off, it was the one where Ernest T. Bass wanted to join the army. If you had read my post I went so far as to highlight the episode, Ernest T. Joins the Army." Of course he never actually joins, but I digress. Duke, I am impressed with your knowledge of this particular show. The duck rhyme was one that ET used here, and you are right about the tip even though you didn't remember the amount. Barney was telling Andy what a good lunch they got for 80 cents, and that you don't mind leaving a nice tip. Then they come to find out that they had each left a quarter. (So Dave gets that part correct.) Duke, you are right again when you say that Barney wanted to go back and put his hat over his and get it back. Andy quickly rebuked Barney and said, "She's a widow with 4 children. She needs the money!" Barney becomes generous again and says, "Let's let her keep it." Old Paratrooper, you are correct on so much of the menu that its scary. Here is the quote,
"I'll have OJ, bowl of cereal, stack of wheats, 3 eggs over, not runny now, bacon on the crisp side, WHITE toast buttered,hash-brown potatoes, coffee, coffee now." Sorry old paratrooper I have to deduct a few points for thinking it was the Mrs. Wiley show. Since I watched it only yesterday, I know what I know. I am sure you guys could ask me some real posers that would stump me. (But I may be able to refer to some I have TiVoed and find the answer.) What do you say we call this contest a tie?

My knowledge of that show is limited. I did have a social studies teacher in 8th grade who loved the show. One day when he gave a quiz we felt was unfair, we went on "strike" in the classroom. We pushed the chairs to the middle of the room and marched around carrying signs that read "Opie's a dork" and "Aunt Bea can't cook", sentiments I don't actually hold, and in retrospect it was rude, but still pretty funny.

I wonder if your teacher thought that little stunt was funny.

As for the tip, both Andy and Barney each left a quarter. The waitress was a widow woman. The order for breakfast was a stack of wheats, two eggs, toast, and I can't remember what else...

When Barney told Andy about going and getting the quarter back from the diner, Andy told him that Olive has 4 or 6 children. She could use that quarter!
