Cell Phones

Here is a little bit of helpful info about cell phone usage while driving. I saw this on CBS Sunday Morning. Cell phones are distracting for most drivers whether they will admit it or not. How many of you have been behind someone sitting at the stoplight and when it turns green, all they are thinking about is talking on the phone. I know today we feel that we are being smarter if we do some multi-tasking, but really its not smart at all.

I think the relatively new state law prohibiting cell phone use while driving for drivers under 18 (I think it's 18, may be 17) is a good law. It's a first step; if they want to ban them while driving it's OK by me; as long as they also ban eating, drinking, texting and applying makeup at the same time! Happy New Year

I definitely agree with the applying makeup rule. You need to be looking in the mirror for that, and then you can't be looking at the road.

I tend to not like that law, though I guess I understand it.

I'm bad about using my cell phone-- but I don't hold it in my hand. I use speaker on the dash, so I figure it's no different than talking to someone next to me.

Note to Holly: Glad to hear you use speaker phone rather than hand held. You don't apply make-up while driving, do you?

Its hard for me to text this back as I am driving with my knees, eating a hot dog, drinking a diet sun drop, writing notes, watching a dvd movie and talking to my passengers.
