Dr. King Statue

Well, it seems that Rocky Mount, NC has decided to abandon the dream of having a statue of Dr. Martin Luther King, because no matter what it looked like, there would always be someone to criticize the likeness that is portrayed. Here are two pics which show two different statues that were being considered.
It certainly is easier to find fault with an artist of any type, than to actually complete a work of art yourself. We have no shortage of music critics, I might add, and I suppose everyone has a right to express their opinions, but it is sad to think that these two works of art will not be used, at least where they were intended to be.

This is a slam in the face of the city. It is also a shame because this should be a great "Claim to fame" for the city that Dr. King used those words for the first time there. Rocky Mount has had it's share of racial inequality, but this should also be used as a tool to promote rather than divide. It just goes to show us that no matter how far we think we have come, we still have further to go. Our former church in Rocky Mount has stepped up to the plate and is one of the most intergrated churches in the area. They have also formed an Hispanic church and purchased a church building to start a mission church for all races. God created us all equal and we should strive to live that way.
