Divorce, Mountain Style
It seems that at least some of you out there are interested in the Mayberry Trivia Game. So here is another little quiz:
1. What are the items that Charlene Darling Wash buries in the ground (by an oak tree) in order to begin the divorce proceedings for her marriage to Dud?
2. What is the name of the girl Dud "made eyes with" according to Charlene and caused her to be unhappy with her marriage to him?
3. What did Dud do (again according to Charlene) with Hasty Burford and didn't come home 'til Wednesday week?
4. What is supposed to happen according to mountain folklore right before a wedding for the bridegroom to be cursed and for the union to be cursed?
It is interesting here to note that Bob Denver (Gilligan) is playing the role of Dud in this episode, where a lesser known actor played him in other episdodes.

I can only give partial answers, I defer to the Andy experts to provide the details;
1. Can't remember teacher (something I said quite a bit in my academic career); but it seems as though the process of the divorce it was also the wedding or engagement of Andy and Charlene. Or am I confusing that with when Charlene tries to engage Opie with her daughter Andy-something or nother?
2. Can't remember teacher, but I recall it was in church
3. They were hunting, and drinking, and hitting her other in the arm yelling "------"
4. Ride a white horse wearing dark clothes under a full moon; it had to be from one direction to another, can't recall which
I probably flunked this I know, but thought I'd throw in what I seem to remember
Great show; still gets me everytime when Opie tells Andy he was saving up to buy his girlfriend a coat
Not too shabby, Duke. Esp. since you probably didn't watch that epi yestidy. I will hold off on giving the answers until more contestants try their skill.
I may not have any more interested contestants, but I will wait another day just to be sure. If nobody else comments, I suppose the Duke will be the winner!

Wild Wild West
West gets his answer correct, except he forgot to mention that its under a full moon, and that was given by the Duke. I will give all answers tomorrow.
I was hoping to hear from the old paratrooper. I really had high expectations from him. I will post the official answers at 10 AM.
Answers to Divorce, Mountain Style Quiz:
1. Beak of owl, 4 tail feathers from a chicken hawk, piece of bacon, and broke comb. These were buried and Charlene did the incantation with Andy by her side so that he would become the new intended.
2. He made eyes at Idelle Bushy at Sunday preachin'--and "he used to go with her and he ain't lost it for her either."
3. Hunting foxes is what he said he was doing, but she knows what they do up there in the hills, "drinking hard cider and punching each other in the arm, and hollerin' flinch."
4. If the Duke and West had collaborated (or done this as a joint assignment) they would have gotten this answer correct. "If someone dressed in black riding a white horse from east to west in light of full moon passes a bridegroom, he is cursed and the union is cursed." Remember that Barney rode the horse and he was allergic, so he sneezed a lot. When he was a kid, his friends had their pic taken on a pony, but Barney had to have his taken on the hood of Hudson Teraplane.
I'll try to come up with some easier ones in the future.

Its funny how the old paratrooper's answer is pretty much word for word here. I am sure he is not going to claim that he didn't look at the official answers. I would rather think that he copied and pasted here.
Besides, old paratrooper, being out of town is no excuse. I know for a fact that you have a Blackberry...or do you refer to it as a Crackberry?
007..Blackberry does not allow me to post on blogs, something about my company not allowing me to goof off on company equipment.
So I suppose you never have goofed off at the office using the company computer on company time? That is quite commendable old paratrooper. Next time I will allow more time so that all the students can finish.
Moi, cut and paste? You flatter me with your confidence in my computer skills. Remember, I am a member of the 50+ club that did not have these things when we were coming up. I cite the following defense to your astute observation.
A.I cannot find scissors that will penetrate my screen.
B.I cannot find glue that will stick to the screen
C.My IT group and secretary have finally taken all “White Out” away from me and taught me another way to correct my typos.
Also, there is a great story the Fishinoptishin tells while on the boat about his tenure at NC State. One of many involving JDuke also.It seems there was a term paper due and the professor has not allowed adequate time for him to complete the project (a semester). Fishin tried the cut and paste method at the last minute, which for some reason was not accepted by the professor. Fishin goes on to explain that this was in the 70’s when no one had computers and Al Gore had not invented the internet. It also explains why he has 3 years of athletic eligibility left if they ever offer saltwater fishing as a collegiate sport.

I too am in the 50+ club, and didn't grow up with these newfangled contraptions. But being smarter than the average bear, I have learned how to do a few things here and there. Old Paratrooper, you're not as dumb as you pretend to be. Maybe I should check with the Lady of Blessings before the final verdict is in.
