The name of this episode is "Sam the Butcher Goes Insane." In it, Sam escapes from the Brady Bunch with his gal Alice, goes to Mayberry and starts selling vegetables on the side of the road, Barney goes out to run them out of town (I hate when he plays his little game) and then Sam goes to work at the grocery store and is going to beat Barney up, but then he learns judo from some guy in Mount Pilot........aw, I'm all confused.
OK, about all I remember here is that some criminal gets caught and Barney messes up and lets him escape, but then Andy and Barney recapture him
I was going to answer this one but decided I liked John's answer better. I will give these key words however if it will help someone else with the answers: chicken thieves, dog hairs, cleaners, trailer park...
John's last paragraph gives the gist of the story. (At first he was confused because this same actor who played Doc also played some sort of a bully in another epi, but I digress.) Fishin' has the right clues and general idea to this epi as well. Barney is standing next to his pic from the Mayberry Gazette because he wants someone from the state police to see it and recognize his skill at police work. Doc knows Barney isn't the crook he pretends to be by sneaking into the cell when Doc is asleep because he simply looks at the that same pic on the wall. After Barney messes up and lets Doc start to escape, and Andy has his rifle or shotgun knocked out of his hand becuase Gomer dropped his rifle on it, all four crooks stop "dead" in their tracks because Gomer then knocks some Christmas lights down from the roof and they think its gunfire. Sorry I'm a little slow in my response but I have been on vacation.
