Meem's Bottom Covered Bridge

One of the neatest things we saw was this covered bridge about 5 miles north of New Market, just off of Highway 11. We were able to ride across it as well as to walk across it. It is single lane, and it appears to be very well built. We heard of another one in the area, but it was on private property. I had never seen one of these, except in pictures. Have any of you seen one? This was a site that took you back just a few years,

Neat shots; not many of those around anymore. I found one in southern WV on a back road last fall. Very pretty, but the warning signs made me a little nervous crossing it in a Suburban.
From an engineer's opinion; why cover a bridge? Does the lid offer structural support? Inquiring minds want to know...............
And BTW, I'm glad to see they covered Meem's bottom!

New Market was one of the "Riley Tour Spots" when we lived in Winchester. We would load up the Jeep CJ, take the top off and travel up and down the Skyline Drive. I am sure my memories of those travels are better than Kevin and Kristi's.
