Last Grass Post for a while anyway

We had another inch or so of rain in about 2 days, and it shows on our new grass around the mailbox. I promise this will be the last post about grass--at least for a while. The one problem we now have is the difference in the ground height where I put down sod, and where I planted the patch. If anyone has a solution other than trampling down the sod after a good rain, please let me know.

Growing Grass, cont.

As one can see from the pics, we DO have much grass growing around the ole mailbox now. And we shoul give credit where it is most deserved. I am not speaking of my green thumb, or the expertise I gained from wiser gardeners than me, nor even the product that I had advertised earlier, but to "God who giveth the increase." There is one shot of my rain gauge, which is reading right at one inch of rain for the last two days. I am thankful for the rain, seein's how I didn't need to water as much this week as last. I will take care not to assume that "we are out of the woods" so to speak, as many times I have planted grass and had it to come up quickly only to find that it died in the heat of the summer sun. Oh no, this time I will continue to baby this project well into the heat of mid-to-late summer. I have so many fans out there reminding me to be a good caretaker.

Watching Grass Grow, continued

I think that I realize the problem. My loving wife told me today that we have grass growing around the mailbox now. I was taking photos too far away. As you can plainly see, there IS grass growing from that strange blue-green concoction. I will continue to post pics as long as there is this thriving interest in lawn maintenance.
P.S. For the really hi-tech green thumb questions, please consult Jerry Baker.

Watching Grass Grow

Well, it is hard to see any growth after 5 days. We'll keep you posted.

More Alias

Dixon is pretty clever here as he sprays the video surveillance camera (while no one notices) thus causing an "Anthrax Alert" after Marshall distracts everyone with his claim of breaking the code...Is there not another video surveillance camera to catch him (other than the one showing us watching TV?) These CIA guys are really slick.

Alias Returns!

Well, some were wondering was this just a dream? Was Michael still alive or not? For those who haven't watched the comeback 2 one-hour epis, I won't spoil it for you. But if you are a true Alias fan, how can you not have watched? Really. Enjoy the rest of this season folks, 'cause this is the last one, you know.

Watching Grass Grow

I have always thought that there are few things more exciting than watching grass grow. So here we can watch it on an almost daily basis. As you can see, I have placed a couple of pieces of sod in a bare spot around my mailbox. I have also planted some Scotts Patch Master Lawn Repair in some other areas. This stuff looks somewhat like a blue-green version of loose insulation that goes in your attic. It is supposed to have all of the ingredients, (including seed) that you need to grow grass. I will be watering every day for at least the next two weeks. Results will be shown in following posts. Are y'all excited?

A few more Easter shots

Just a few more shots from our Easter picnic in Sarah P. Duke Gardens. You can see Adele in several shots and in one of them, you will see that she found an Easter egg. She really did well for the time we were there. Her aunt Georgia is holding her in one shot. (Georgia is in the orange tank top.) My cousin Bill and his mother-in-law are in one shot, and my sister, Sue (and Adele's grandmother) is holding her in another. Sue is wearing a Neal Middle School T and a Portugal hat. Giulia, (Adele's mother) is sitting beside Adele in a brown tank top.

Easter

After worshiping at Duke Chapel, Pat and I were able to enjoy an Easter picnic at Duke Gardens with my sister Sue, her two daughters, Georgia, and Giulia, Sue's grandaughter, Adele, our cousin Bill and several friends. As you can see the gardens were beautiful, although it was rather warm. We found a place in the shade and had a great time. I must say I did enjoy the service at the chapel, especially the beautiful singing, and particularly the a capella portion when the choir was on either side of the congregation. Many enjoyed celebrating the risen Saviour, as we did. The beauty of the gardens show God's handiwork, and are a testimony to His great creation.

NC State Dorms

Here are few shots of Bragaw and Sullivan dorms. I lived in Sullivan for 4 years and visited the concession area at Bragaw from time to time, usually in the evenings. I must say they are much more inviting, with the trees all around, protecting us from the heat of the sun.

Harrelson Hall

Well ole Harrelson Hall won't be around forever at NC State, so I thought I'd get a few pics in for the record. I always thought it was a pretty unique building in the late 60s even though it was tough for the architects and engineers when it was built. It is still unique today, but there is one thing that I didn't get to see when visiting Harrelson this past weekend, and that was a study lounge area at the top of the inner circle. Instead of being able to view that, I saw this door with a sign stating that it is now a private office, with the implied Keep Out message. I suppose it hasn't really changed that much from what it looked like in 1967.

Carter-Finley

Well I must say that I was shocked when I took the Wade Ave. ext. and took a look at ole Carter Finley Stadium. I saw the RBC Center well enough, but I was looking around for the football stadium. I thought, "Surely they haven't moved it, and what are those grey buildings there?" They looked new. As I got closer, I found out that these grey buildings are the Richard Vaughn Towers at Carter Finley Stadium. I really need to get by the Alma Mater a little more often. I had heard of the construction going on to add seats in the end zone, as you can see in the pic. The schedule is to have the work completed by August (2006.) I have some more pics of the campus which I will post later.

State-Wake Baseball

I was fortunate enough to be able to see the State-Wake baseball game on Friday, and witness a great come-from-behind win where Wake led most of the game. And I was happy to be with my brother-in-law Glenn, who is a graduate of Va. Tech., but he works at NC State so he is definitely a State fan when we are playing Wake Forest. It was interesting to note that the winning pitcher, Kyle Rutter, pitched only 1/3 of an inning! Baseball is one crazy sport!

STORMY WEATHER

The other day I was riding my bike in the neighborhood and noticed these clouds moving by, and it seemed that the sky was so clear to the south, but so stormy to the north. I just thought they were interesting. I've looked at clouds from both sides now...Hey, that would make a great song!
