NYC Pools

Here are a couple of pics of pools in the New York city area, courtesy of the NY Times (today's online edition.) I couldn't imagine swimming in anything as huge as these two. The upper pic is of the Red Hook Pool in Brooklyn in 1940. The second one is the of the Astoria Pool in Queens in 1936, with Hell Gate in background. I was thinking that it must have been nice to have a place to cool off like these back in that day, but the biggest pool I have ever been swimming in, was Duke Park Pool in Durham, NC. I don't imagine anyone tried to do any laps in crowds like these.

That many people...wonder where they all went to the bathroom? Sorry, that one was too easy!

I have a hard time getting the discipline to swim in the pool that's right across from my house. But that's probably because there's always a hundred kids over there...
