Two Blogs, Now Three on One Topic
Two of the blogs I read are listed below and today they both just happen to have the same topic, the new movie, The Golden Compass, starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. Today I won't bother to quote either one, but I will provide the links for you to read them in their entirety.

I haven't seen the film and don't necessarily plan to, but I did read the books and for the most part enjoyed them. Pullman is a very good writer. His prose is elegant and clear and when he's not too heavy handed he's really good at metaphor.
As a believer I do find it frustrating that he is so specifically anti-christian, but that is also the books greatest weakness.
A lot of Christian stories have the same problem. They are so ideologically driven, that they become thinly veiled "Tracts" or arguments which derails the story. The best Christian doesn't do this, and neither does the best atheist art.
The first two books in His Dark Materials are extremely well written and compelling, but at the end the message becomes so dominant that it actually derails the story. That's my biggest problem with it.
And I agree with Mohler that the Church has enemies and we shouldn't be scared of them. That we should be able to engage them kindly and thoughtfully.
I appreciate your comments. When Dr. Mohler says we need to be prepared to discuss these books or this new movie, he was talking to folks like you, not ones like me. Dan, you've got skills.
